The Summer School EMERGE is divided in two modules:
Module 1, from 8th to 12th June 2026, which includes:
- 5 days event
- seminars and lectures
- PhD poster session (Poster is mandatory for PhD Student. Info in Overview page)
- social dinner (Day 3)
- best Poster presentation award (Day 3 during social dinner)
- company visit and cultural excursion (Day 4)
- welcome cocktail (Day 1)
- lunches and coffee breaks
- digital proceedings
- final test for the recognition of PhD training credits – 6 ECTS. The test consists of a series of multiple-choice questions on the topic covered in Module 1
Module 2, from 15th to 19th June 2026, which includes:
- 5 days event
- practical experience of useful software
- Company visit and cultural excursion (Day 3)
- coffee breaks
- final test for the recognition of PhD training credits – 6 ECTS. The test consists of an assignment with involves the use of SWs practiced in Module 2
Note: People can apply to the entire programme (Module 1 and Module 2) or just to Module 1.
The participation fee does NOT cover the educational activities or any part of the School’s training offer. It is solely intended to cover ancillary fees such as catering, social events, visits and other logistical costs related to the program.

Module 1:
- IES or PELS student members – €250
- IEEE student members – €350
- IEEE non member – €500
- full application Fee waiver for those who are residents or have their domicile in the Emilia-Romagna region, or to students enrolled in universities or AFAM institutes located in the region.
Module 1 and Module 2:
- IES or PELS student members – €350
- IEEE student members – €450
- IEEE non member – €600
- full application Fee waiver for those who are residents or have their domicile in the Emilia-Romagna region, or to students enrolled in universities or AFAM institutes located in the region.
Please note that registration ancillary fees here reported are VAT excluded. 22%VAT is to be applied to the registration cost.

Application
Please note that there is no limit for participation to Module 1, whereas the school has a limited number of places for module 2 (20 seats).
Selection is made via CV evaluation. Please, be ready to upload your CV in pdf format (Max 10 MB)
Selection Criteria:
- Be enrolled in or have recently completed a Master’s degree or a PhD in Engineering
- Be engineer working in the field of transportation.
- For module 2 only, priority is given to participants who are residents or have their domicile in the Emilia-Romagna region, or to students enrolled in universities or AFAM institutes located in the region.
If you are an IEEE IES student member working outside Europe you can also apply for travel reimbursement.
